George Pousseos was born in 1955 in Athens.

He began his professional path in 1973 as an employee in Shipping Companies.

In 1978 he attended the University of Lille III of France, in the Department of “Diplome Etudes Francaises”.

Following his return to Greece in 1979 and until 1987 he worked for Transmed Shipping S.A. where he was responsible for the Department of Bilateral Trade between Greece and the ex Soviet Union.

In 1987, he settled on the island of Ios Island and was occupied as an apiarist – bio cultivator.

He was elected President of the Community of Island in the municipal elections of 1991. In 1994 he elevated the island from a Community to a Municipality. He has since been elected for five consecutive rounds of elections as Mayor of the island.

He developed important work as far as the island’s infrastructure and services are concerned. Examples include sectors such as health, culture, touristic development and upgrading of the island, the protection of Ios’ cultural heritage and its natural beauty.

In November 2009 appointed as Secretary General of Tourism in the Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

George Pousseos has been married since 1976 to Claudine Sombret.

He speaks French and English.
