The 39th (LTH´)Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classic Antiquities is a newly established Regional Service of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in level of Address, has its abutment in Tripolis and a competence that is extended to the Prefecture of Arcadia. It was founded in 10.5.2006.
The competence of the Ephorate is reduced in all subjects with regard to the maintenance, protection and keep of antiquities, the scientific research, the revelation, the maintenance, the conservation, the election of antiquities, and their exposition to Museums, the study, the planning, the management and the implementation of any archaeological work of conservation, repair, re-establishment, restoration, election and configuration of monuments and archaeological sites, as well as their natural (or not) environment, the implementation of all above work with surveillance and by assessment, the scientific study and publication of antiquities, the management of monuments of archaeological spaces, Museums and Collections, in the space of its responsibility, that belongs to the state, as well as with in general concern of application of being in effect legislation about the protection of antiquities.
Its personnel participates in this work, as well as in the conduct of systematic and saving excavations or other archaeological work and research, in the study and the organizing part of the permanent and periodical exhibits, in the configuration of growth and function of the archaeological spaces, in the organization, projection and function of the museums, depending on the official needs and independently from their distribution in each individual department.
The activities of the 39th (LTH’) Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classic Antiquities in Arcadia are allocated at sectors as follows:
- Archaeological spaces
a) work of infrastructure for the order function and the improvement of the image of the archaeological sites.
b) work of conservation, restoration and appointment of the archaeological spaces of the Sanctuary of Alea Athena in Tegea, the buildings group in Loukou in Kynouria, the Agora and Theatre of Megalopolis and the Sanctuary of Despoina in Lykosoura in collaboration with the scientific committees of Fund of Management of Credits for the Implementation of Archaeological Work (TDPEAE).
c) collaboration with the American Faculty of Classic Study for the systematic excavation in the Sanctuary of Zeus in Mount Lykaion in the Municipality of Megalopolis.
d) monitoring of archaeological work executed from other institutions (geo - scanning research of the Norwegian Archaeological Institute in Tegea, geo - scanning research and testing excavation sections of the Finnish Archaeological Institute in the region of Arachamites in the Municipality of Baltetsi.
e) saving excavations before the implementation of technical work (excavations in the region of the Holy Temple of Saint Konstantin’s in the region of Stadio in Tegea, in the Mycenaean cemetery of Baths in the Municipality of Iraia, in the cemetery of Megalopolis, in the new highway Tripolis – Kalamata and section Leyktron- Sparta, in lake Taka, etc.
f) test excavations-sections for the localization of antiquities in the region of Tripotamia in the Municipality of Tropaia after the demand of the local Cultural Association.
g) autopsies, approvals and monitoring of building work in all provinces of the Prefecture of Arcadia.
h) topographic documentation of the archaeological work: imprintings of antiquities, syntax of an archaeological map, delimitation of declarations and areas, observation of the archive of drawings and charts.
i) documentation of property arrangement and control of use of real estate belonging to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, that is located in the territorial competence of LTH´ EPKA.
j) announcements of the scientific work of the Ephorate.
- Museums
a) upgrade and modernization of the Archaeological Museum of Tegea in collaboration with the Management of Implementation of Work of Museums of YP.PO.T.
b) educational programmes for students and special social teams in the Archaeological Museum of Tripolis.
c) elaboration of a museum program for the New Archaeological Museum of Megalopolis.
d) elaboration of a museum program for the New Archaeological Museum of Tegea.
e) elaboration of an architectural and museum study for the new Archaeological Museum of Dimitsana.
f) elaboration of a static study for the Archaeological Museum of Astros.
g) issuing of study authorizations for archaeological material, photographing, filming, artistic events, free entry in the Museums and archaeological sites.
Other Activities:
a) elaboration of an architectural study for the alteration of the building in Merkovouni, which was granted by the Municipality of Tripolis, into offices for all the services of YP.PO.T. in the Perfecture of Arcadia. |
